A dowel is a component used in joining technology. It is used for materials into which a screw cannot be screwed immediately. Originally, a dowel was only understood to mean a wooden dowel still used in carpentry and joinery. When screwing a screw into sufficiently strong and at the same time flexible materials such as wood, sheet metal and many plastics, no dowel is necessary.
