The frieze is a horizontal band in front of a façade. It serves to decorate the appearance of buildings, which is why it belongs to the stylistic elements of ornamentation. The stripe is rhythmically structured and thus differs from the cornices. The structure is composed of recurring sculptural elements. These elements can be simple geometric components or reflect detailed representations. Friezes are used to structure facades.
